Midnight Basketball is a fun social basketball competition held late on Friday or Saturday nights over 8 weeks each Tournament for all teenagers.
Since its inception in Australia, over 250 Midnight Basketball Tournaments have run nationally with over 150,000 teenage attendances, 50,000 volunteer roles contributing hundreds of thousands of hours, 160,000 hot, nutritious dinners and 6,000 mentoring and skills sessions.
Anyone in the local community can join the volunteer Management Team including individuals from a wide range of community groups and sectors, such as local businesses and individual businesspeople, community groups like Rotary and Lions, Local, State and Federal government, youth and family services, sporting groups and also welcoming all individuals. This diversity brings different expertise and opportunities to the Tournaments and experience across the country has proven it to be a key ingredient in ensuring successful and sustainable Midnight Basketball Tournaments.
Organisers are seeking
- Volunteers to join the local Management Team to oversee the Tournaments locally - from Chair to Logistics, Volunteer, Player, Finance, Marketing and Support Managers we can match a role to your experience.
- Volunteers for tournament nights - for tasks like helping to serve dinner, coaching, teams, scoring, refereeing, driving or supervising the buses and other roles to suit you.
- Other support for Midnight Basketball whether financial or in-kind.
Chair of the Midnight Basketball MtDruitt Management Team, Blake Browne, said "Midnight Basketball is a natural catalyst for having fun in a healthy and safe environment, meeting new people and we encourage Tournament night volunteers to get behind our Tournament. Come along and give it a go. The whole community will enjoy Midnight Basketball and get a great sense of satisfaction about building a great Tournament together."
"Across the country, we are seeing that community support is driving the success of Midnight Basketball. The more extensive and diverse this support, the greater the positive impact on the local participants," says Tess White, Chief Executive of Midnight Basketball Australia. "Midnight Basketball provides opportunities for the community to work together and helps build strong foundations for confident, resilient teenagers with optimism for life," says Tess White.

Midnight Basketball Tournaments run for 8 weeks and start at 7pm with a nutritious dinner, three or more competition basketball games with skills sessions, music and bus ride safely home by midnight.
Midnight Basketball is community-driven and embodies our philosophy of combining team sport with learning and wellbeing while embracing positive opportunities by filling a gap on Friday and Saturday nights, with local volunteers coming together to provide inclusive, healthy, safe, motivating and free tournaments in local basketball stadiums.
Midnight Basketball enables and empowers effective relationship and community building within each local community.
Midnight Basketball Australia provides an automated, out of the box online solution, for approved communities to run low cost, volunteer-run tournaments embracing a diverse 'whole of community' approach to enhance social cohesion and wellbeing. It is replicable, making it a nationally scalable and sustainable model, designed to maximise the number of communities and teenagers that it can support.
Together, we are also helping to provide a positive real alternative to end the culture of binge drinking on weekends.
